The lyrics remind you that everyone has moments, where they feel stuck, and that’s part of being human. The kids gathered around the fountain just as they always had, when the sun began to set. It was dark. Mime didn’t come. The children waited wondering where he could be. They sat until their parents cried out “Come in! With looks of confusion shooting across everyone they slowly surrounded him by the fountain. “Take a seat little ones, have a seat.” he said as the children yet again sat on their bottoms, in the rise of sunrise. Balloons, baboons, bananas, birds, bubbles and butterflies spruced from Clown’s sack. The children were puzzled, this was new to them. Color spread and laughter came out of Clown. Clown could talk. The air of the cozy home smelt of lavenders and mint leaves. Creatures of all sorts walked the floors. The children of Eze enjoyed Clown's house very much. They came almost everyday. The children could play around the whole house except the purple door that hid a magical rose garden that no one could walk through except Clown and his wife. Clown always came to perform and the kids of Eze seemed to not even peep a thought in their brain about where Mime was. Nobody ever found out. The bells that rang each morning, how the children ran out of their houses before school, and instead of going straight there, they came to the round fountain and sat down just as they had done in the evening for him. “Goodmorning everyone!”, Clown proclaimed with a big fat smile on his face. Mime could feel his fury and anger bury over him. But this was no rose garden. Mime walked closer toward a lady with skin as pale as the moon and a body as thin as a noodle. She looked weak, sick and tired. With lavender oils surrounding her bed, and many, many paintings of roses around her. As they came outside to play with their new toys, they spotted Clown and Mime, together. The town's bell rang, marking the beginning of PM. In unison the pair said, “Town, it is time for our show! I made a similar one awhile ago but I decided to make another just to see how much my art improved from the last time I drew it. It was built in a very particular way. It was a square building on the outside, grey, nondescript, but stood out against the dry, arid landscape. However, the prison appeared circular on the inside. Within the prison itself, cells stack on top of each other, spanning more floors than I ever cared to count. For every two floors there was a ring, and within this ring were supposedly guards. We could never really tell if we were being watched, we always figured we were, but no one cared to check. The mug was finally full. As I took the mug I looked into it, studying my reflection. I saw my peppered hair, more gray than black, I had lost track of my age, but I was certainly showing it. As I had been imprisoned, my wrinkles had only grown. The only difference between myself and the others was my face. We all had the same suit, cell, mug, bunk. The others drank their coffee quickly, big gulps, but I couldn’t do it this morning. I looked at the coffee, slowly sipping it. I grimaced at the flavor, it never got easier. I never found drinking it enjoyable or easy, but I always did. But what if I didn’t? Everyone stepped out simultaneously, marking the beginning of the work day. We marched in clockwise rotation until we hit the break in the cells where the work room was, on the northern end of the ring. The work room matched the rest of the prison. A cubic room with grey walls. The only thing that ever stood out was the machinery scattered about. There were five rows, each with five machines. I was always on press duty. The smell had gotten worse as I got closer and closer. It smelled like sulfur, but also of sweet decay. I gagged as I moved towards the cell, with his body finally coming into view. It was bloated, discoloured, green. His cheeks were sunken, his eyes glassy. The man that I had called my friend, now a corpse. The coffee maker had not stopped since his death. He laid in a mixture of his own bodily fluid and coffee. The scene was nauseating, forcing me out of the cell, I couldn’t stomach it any longer. There would never be an end, we would lose our meaning, our spark, slaving away at those stations until we withered away. There was no point. I waited for the same trill buzzing to release us. I took my mug, stared into it one last time, memorizing my own tired eyes. I hurled the mug at the surveillance ring, the shattering of the mug in sharp contrast to the cadence of the work march. The hot liquid slowly poured down the concrete rings. I walked out of my cell, raised myself over the guard rail, and hurled myself over. I felt like I was going through withdrawals, chasing the high of that first video. My room decayed into a monument of trash, liquor bottles, and dirty clothes. I stood in a daze while they broke the door down. I showed no resistance; I’d gotten what I’d wanted, my divine justice. They cuffed me and led me out of the room past his horrified friends, their faces twisted in grief. I looked at them and grinned, satisfied with my work. They sentenced me to life in prison without parole. I rotted away in my isolated cell, with rats scurrying around me, not an ounce of sunlight, and the smell of decay engulfing me. Dad’s here. We’re leaving now.”, I told my mom. I was waiting by the door with all my things and my dad waiting in the car. We were about to leave for a weekend camping trip. When he asked me about spending the weekend together, I honestly thought it was a joke. We haven’t spent more than a day together and I thought it would be like that forever. After I finally realized he wasn’t joking and was being serious, I felt a sense of hope. I knew the weekend was going to be another chance to make great memories. I imagined us talking about life and going on adventure, finally making that connection we haven’t had the longest time. I waited for my mom since I heard her running down the stairs. “You’re going to be careful, right? If you change your mind and you want to stay, that’s perfectly fine too.”, she said, a little winded from coming down the stairs. “I’ll be okay, mom. I haven’t told my mom about it because I know all she’s going to say is, “I told you so.” And I really don’t feel like hearing that right now. I’ve been texting him non-stop this entire week and I haven’t gotten a single message from him. He hasn’t even read the messages. I can’t lie, now, I’m really worried. Not because maybe something happened to him but because I don’t want to have been proved wrong by my mom. Today’s the day. I’m minutes away from walking across the stage and getting my diploma. My dad hasn’t said anything but I still have faith that he’ll show up when it matters. Maybe he just hasn’t been on his phone for the past week? Distracted by the thoughts, the time went by quickly and next thing I knew, the ceremony was over. I walked through the chairs crowded with students and their parents.
