The Talon is BACK...

After years of silence, The Talon is rising again. With a devoted team and student body, this newspaper aims to capture true student stories and their voices. Through interviews with editors, staff, and students, such as Mr. Abuel, Annika Knox, Marc Rodig, and Karely Prado, we discovered the truth behind The Talon’s return.

October 10, 2025 | Teacher Advisor to The Talon, Mr. Abuel

Our first step was to ask the teacher advisor, Mr. Abuel, his thoughts about The Talons revival, "I feel excited. I feel scared… I get butterflies in my tummy thinking about it. And that's how I know it's probably a good thing.”

He also shared his vision for The Talon’s impact on students. “We want to focus on celebrating the stories that are happening around campus that nobody really knows.”

We also interviewed Annika Knox, the Editor-in-Chief, who is in charge here at The Talon.“I find stories, and then I assign them to the writers, but I also take suggestions from other people,” she stated. “I’m the Editor-in-Chief, so I basically run and oversee everything, as well as making sure work is being completed.”

The team's current project is relaunching The Talon’s website. “We’ve been working on stories and assigning them to the writers. Right now, we’ve been putting the website together, making sure that it’s up and running.” Beyond that, Annika stated, “I’ve been wanting to write about something related to AI…” and her excitement for the future is clear.

Next, we interviewed Mr. Rodig, someone very familiar with The Talon, "I was the teacher advisor for the class…honestly, my first year, I didn't really have a lot of experience, luckily I had a really good editing staff, they actually taught me how to do the paper. That was back in 2005-2006 when I first started.” said Rodig.

Unfortunately, the newspaper slowly died out, “It started declining around 2020, COVID kind of created some problems for us, and then the next year…There just wasn't enough of them to run the class.” With Mr. Rodig’s knowledge, he shared suggestions for the editorial board. “Having a hands-on paper was something, I think we just lost a little bit of attractiveness of the newspaper when that went away.” Knowing this, be on the lookout for digital copies of The Talon.

October 10, 2025 | Student interviewee, Karely Prado.

Our final interview was Karely Prado, a junior here at Estancia. We asked her opinion about The Talon. “I knew the Talon was coming back, and I was excited…it’s a great way for people to feel included.” When asked what topics she’d like to read, she said, “Upcoming events, maybe a focus on clubs…so everyone can get participation.”

She also believes The Talon's impact will be significant: “It’s something I can look back at…not just in the announcements, it’s a good way to spread the word.” With a strong editorial team, great teacher advisor, and new digital platform, The Talon is sure to be an instant success. As Annika put it best, “I hope it really takes off, I see it doing well!”
