All eagles soar at estancia
The All Eagles Soar Campaign at Estancia High School was launched at the start of the last school year by Mr. Shelby to change the school’s culture and habits. The campaign’s main goal is to reset Estancia’s culture, increase student involvement within the community, help students succeed academically, and prepare them for life after high school.
The campaign was created by Mr. Shelby, Ms. Grefe, Mr. Halt, and the leadership team. Introducing the campaign gave them the opportunity to act on feedback from students and guardians, shaping how students perceive feedback and their academic performance.
To raise awareness, flyers and posters about phone policy, getting involved, and planning ahead were designed by Mr. Shelby and several teachers. These materials are part of a larger effort to promote positive habits on campus.
Mr. Shelby explained one part of the campaign:
“The Catch the Current side of the campaign is really focused on what makes high school good for you, what ways to get involved in your life … Getting involved in clubs.”
Participation in extracurricular activities provides opportunities for involvement and supports students’ personal ambitions and goals.
Student Cecicarol Garay shared how the campaign affected campus life:
“Most of them didn’t really understand what a club was or what it is to be part of your school community… so I feel like what the campaign did is to make sure incoming students and seniors are really aware that students need to take things seriously and make sure they are a part of certain extracurriculars to make them stronger candidates for the future.”
At the start of the school year, the campaign organized a pep assembly encouraging students to think about how they use technology and avoid procrastination. To further build community, they also hosted a friendly rock, paper, scissors competition during the first week of school.
“It’s not about what we want for you, it’s about what you want for yourself,” said Mr. Shelby. “So we’re looking for more student feedback. We’re looking for more students to get involved and to be a voice in the committee and to be able to shape it and meet your needs.”
The All Eagles Soar Campaign promotes student involvement and helps students develop skills that can be applied beyond high school. By encouraging engagement, leadership, and personal growth, it continues to shape well-rounded individuals known at Estancia as “Soaring Eagles.”
