Dodging to the Top: Full Review of This Year’s High-Stakes Dodgeball Tournament

As each week passed, the teams that were left faced tougher opponents, leaving only two teams standing.

Gummy P.V celebrating after winning their first game.

The dodgeball tournament kicked off on November 4th, it consisted of eight teams of six students on each team. The games happened in the main gym in the basketball court at lunch. The teams were Mr. Pancho, BFS, Gummy P.V, Scubies, Haus of Hauser, Sapo, Yeehaw, and Ferda Boys. To win a match it was a best of three rounds where a team had to win 2 of the 3 rounds by eliminating all the players on the opposing team first.

There were two games each week that eliminated two teams. As each week passed, the teams that were left faced tougher opponents, leaving only two teams standing. In the first week BFS and Scrubies got eliminated followed by Sapo and Yeehaw in the second week. In the third week Haus of Hauser and Mr. Pancho. This left Gummy P.V and Ferda Boys. The final was supposed to happen before Thanksgiving break but it got delayed to after the break. At the time I am writing this it hasn’t happened yet.

This was Haus of Hauser against Ferda Boys in the semi finals in the middle of the game.

“It was fun overall, just a little tough at times when things got intense.”

But I know by watching their previous games that it’s going to be a classic.I asked Eli Seckman, Sophomore, one of the referees, who he thought was going to win and he said, ¨It should be a close game, both teams have a lot of talent but I have Gummy P.V winning 2-1.¨ Both teams have great teamwork and can stay calm under pressure. I also asked Eli Seckman about his experience referring to the games “It was fun overall, just a little tough at times when things got intense.”

I watched the game between Ferda Boys and Haus of Hauser. Leading up to this point both teams won their previous game 2-0. When I got there both teams were warming up by trying to make threes. Once the referees put the balls on the half-court line and asked the players to get behind the baseline, they blew the whistle and both teams ran to get the balls but on Haus of Hauser side two players stayed back leading to fewer balls for the team which eventually resulted in a first round loss.

In the end, the Ferda Boys players caught the solo Haus of Hauser player off guard with a direct hit, allowing the Ferda Boys to advance to the final game.

For the second round all players dashed for the balls when the whistle blew leading to a tie of 1-1. The next round both teams played well then it came down to two players for Haus of Hauser and four for Ferda Boys then a player on Ferda Boys caught a ball. Now it was one player on five players and Ferda Boys players were planning to use their advantage and throw all their balls at once.

The staff plays too!

When they did this, the final standing Haus of Hauser player dodged all the balls and threw his ball back striking an opposing team player. In the end, the Ferda Boys players caught the solo Haus of Hauser player off guard with a direct hit, allowing the Ferda Boys to advance to the final game.
