ETAP: Is it worth our time?
ETap has become an important part of the school day at Estancia High School, but students and staff don’t all see it the same way. Some students think ETap is helpful because it gives them time to finish homework or get extra help, while others believe it is mostly wasted time spent on phones or talking with friends. This has led many people to question what ETap is really meant for.

Different students use ETap in different ways.
Jerry Martinez, class of 2026, says he enjoys ETap and calls it “a fun class.” He admits that he usually spends the time sleeping or on his phone. When asked what he thinks the value of ETap is, he said he wasn’t really sure. His response shows how some students may not take ETap seriously or understand its purpose.

For other students, ETap is very helpful. Daniel Escobar, class of 2027, has a busy schedule and little time to do homework at home because he is involved in several extracurricular activities. ETap gives him time during the school day to finish his work and stay organized.
For students like Daniel, ETap helps build better study habits and manage time more effectively.

Teachers and staff agree that ETap is meant to help students academically. Ms. Rodriguez, a Spanish teacher and the head of freshman ETap, explained that there are many ETap options, such as comic ETap, indoor sports, Spanish cinema, math skills, and Eagle Advisory.
These options allow students to either get extra help or participate in activities while still staying focused on school.

Mr. Otero, a history and ETap teacher, also believes ETap is important. He said that “ETap matters” because some students truly need that time to finish homework or relax during the school day.
According to teachers, ETap gives students a chance to reset and be more successful in their classes.
Even though students use ETap in different ways, its purpose is clear. Whether students are studying, getting help, or taking a break, ETap is a valuable part of the school day and continues to matter to both students and staff.
