ARK Club teacher superlatives

Ms. Chamberlain being interviewed by Alvin Pasual Garay in her office

The teachers' awards were organized by our school’s ARK Club, which specializes in random acts of kindness on campus.  ARK is managed by Ms.Chamberlain, the assistant principal of the school, Mrs.Fitzgerald, one of the librarians in the library, and the students who are in the program.

Certificates were given to every single teacher with a superlative that best represents who they are. For example, Ms. de los Santos won for most patient teacher because students who have taken her class either this year or in the past formally gave their input and described how she deals with kids.

“ I’ve been doing this for 26 years. So I think the longer you’ve been doing it, the more patient you become. I think your first few years teaching when you're young, you maybe don't have as much patience. But it's something that develops over the years.” Ms. De Los Santos

ARK’s main goal is to encourage campaigns that bring the students together and unify the school through events that promote kindness. The superlatives were given out for teacher appreciation week but other instances include Valentines day this year where the name of every student was written on a heart on the side of the little theater.

The club officers of the ARK program used ChatGPT for the project, asking the AI for positive superlative ideas for teachers. After they gathered enough superlatives, the students would give their vote on which superlative best suited them based on how our teachers act during class.

All teachers have different teaching styles, and each one develops unique ways to keep students engaged. Another teacher recognized during the awards was Mr. Abuel, who received the superlative "Most Likely to Turn Everything Into a Life Lesson."

Mr. Abuel is an English teacher and is known for connecting classroom topics to real-world situations. Students often describe his lessons as meaningful because he uses everyday experiences and mistakes as opportunities for learning. His energetic teaching style and ability to capture students' attention helped earn him this recognition from the student body.

The teacher appreciation awards gave students the opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of their teachers. Through ARK’s efforts to promote kindness and school unity, the event helped strengthen the connection between students and staff while celebrating our teachers and what they do for us on campus.
