Introducing Our security Team: Meet Josh

When walking the halls of Estancia, not only will you see students and teacher, but also our very own security team that patrols the campus and our ensures student safety on a daily basis. Although he may be a new addition to the security team, Josh is no stranger to Estancia. He currently coaches girls soccer and has worked here for twelve years. He has coached for about 23 years total.

When Josh was asked what inspired him to become a coach, he said that he had played soccer up until he was an adult and because of this connection, he jumped right into coaching at the early age of 19. Josh was then asked how he build positive relationships with students while still laying down the law and he shared that he tries interacting with students throughout the school days to build up mutual respect. Then when it’s time to enforce the rules, the trust and communication can get through to the student and assist him in the conflict.

“This was a perfect job for me to just be more involved with the school and just interacting with students on a more daily basis.”

Anthony Martinez interviewing Josh in the hallway.

If a conflict break out between students, Josh will do anything in his power to prioritize student safety. He stated that first he will get in a close proximity to the group and establish a presence to show that he's there. Then he will try to separate and de-escalate the situation.

Josh said his favorite part about working at Estancia is being able to work with the students. He also says that he takes a lot of pride in coaching and working at Estancia and that working here for 12 years has made him become very dedicated to the school.

Outside of keeping our school safe and coaching, Josh enjoys going to his kids sporting events and loves spending time with his family.

Josh’s message to students:

“This is a pivotal time for all youth, you are coming in here feeling like a kid and by the time you leave high school, you are an adult…”. “It should be something again that students take pride in because they want to have a great high school experience.”

Next time you see Josh in the hallway don’t be afraid to say hi and introduce yourself because our security team shows up everyday to keep us safe and ensure that we have a great high school experience her at Estancia.
