The new English teacher is making a big impression during her first year at Estancia. Ms. Atilano is one of Estancia High School’s newest English teachers, joining the staff at the start of the 2025–26 school year. She teaches in the English department alongside other faculty members and brings several years of experience to the classroom.
She was hired to fill a need for a freshman English teacher and was selected for her strong credentials and prior experience in other districts. This year marks her sixth year of teaching.
Ms. Atilano first heard about Estancia after being let go from her previous position, an unexpected change that was giving her room to follow her heart and explore new opportunities. Reflecting on her experience so far, she said, “The students at Estancia High School have made my teaching experience so much better because they are so social and energetic.”
She added that Estancia already holds a special place in her heart. “I can’t highlight enough how energetic the students are, and I feel like that's what makes teaching fun,” she said. Known for her warmth and positivity, Ms. Atilano has quickly become a favorite among students and staff. She shared that everyone has been incredibly welcoming and that she hopes to remain at Estancia for years to come.
A freshman student of hers, Adrian Garcia, described her as one of his favorite teachers, and talks about her skill and dedication in teaching ninth-grade English. He said her classroom feels very welcoming and that she ensures students stay focused. Adrian added, “Ms. Atilano should stay at Estancia High School, because the students in her classroom feel connected with her as a teacher.”

Ms. Atilano grew up in Santa Ana and was the first in her family to attend and complete college. She studied at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she double majored in English and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. “After spending those four years in DC I knew I wanted to come back to California,” she said.
When she returned, she spent about three years teaching in Los Angeles before moving back to Santa Ana, where she taught for two years at Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School and her Godinez Fundamental High School where she previously attended.
Fellow English teacher Ms. Grefe, who works closely with her, praised Ms. Atilano’s teaching and personality. “Ms. Atilano is someone who takes her job seriously, who cares about her students, and also enjoys having fun on a daily basis,” Ms. Grefe said. She added that Ms. Atilano has connected well with both students and staff, calling her a great addition to the department.
Ms. Atilano has made a strong impression during her first year at Estancia. With her enthusiasm, care, and dedication, she has already become an important part of the Eagle community.
