Perfectly picked: valentines gift guide

Valentine’s Day is often associated with chocolates, flowers, and cards, but the right gift can mean different things to different people. Sophia Garcia and Jordyn Johnson have interviewed both students and teachers to help you decide on what to get your loved one this Valentines day.

Freshman Josie Vidales

Name & Grade: Josie Vidales- Freshman

“What makes a gift special?”

Josie: “I think what makes a gift special is what you put into it. It's not so much what you get but it's who you get it from and how it’s made, for example, a handmade gift, I think it's much more meaningful because they take the time and put something they love in what you love and put the effort into it.”

“Do you have any ideas for valentine’s day gifts?”

Josie: “Well I'm making my friend a basket so just stuff they love in general, like thinking outside the box rather than just chips and snacks and getting stuff that they actually enjoy rather than something useless like Bath and Body Works.”

Social Science and AVID teacher Mr. G

Social Science Teacher & AVID Teacher: Mr.G

“What’s a good price range for a valentine’s day gift?

Mr.G: “Well for me, I like to do more experiences rather than gifts. So it would be like “hey lets go get dinner and then catch a movie” or “lets go on a hike”. So I would say between the two of us $50 and then whatever the experience is, obviously if it's the movies $20 each maybe, so around $100.”

“What would you want as a gift or like something someone would do for you for valentine’s day?

Mr.G: “I like things that are unplanned, like something spontaneous, or like the surprise of it, like hey today were going to go on this little adventure, like I feel that would be a nice little surprise.

Senior Jeslyn Bahena

Name & Grade: Jeslyn Bahena- Senior

“Do you have a plan on what you're getting your valentine?”

Jeslyn: “I plan on getting my valentines a basket with a few of the things he wants and the things that I already know he likes so like snacks.”

“What makes a gift special?”

Jeslyn: “Something that makes a gift special is like you think about it throughout a period of time to give thought into it.”

Junior Aisleen Avalos

Name & Grade: Aisleen Avalos- Junior

What makes a gift special?

Aisleen: “What makes a gift special is how you present it to them, like if you say “Oh, I got this because it made me think of you” rather than just “‘here take it”.”

What’s the best gift you’ve received?

Aisleen: “I think I really like jewelry or like little things like that. Or something sentimental like the ones from my mom. She’s been making some personal things for me and it means so much to me.”

Junior Leon Quintanar

Name & Grade: Leon Quintanar- Junior

What’s the best gift you’ve gotten?

Leon: “The best gift I’ve personally gotten is like letters. They’re just really thoughtful.”

What makes a gift special?

Leon: “A gift that comes from the heart, something with a lot of thought into it without just giving money or like not actually thinking abt the gift”

Do you have any gift ideas?

Leon: “Any gift ideas? Chocolates flowers, you know the basic things”

English Teacher- Mr Rodig

English Teacher Mr. Rodig

Whats’s the best gift you’ve gotten?

Mr. Rodig: “My wife gave me some charms of things that were important to her and her life growing up, that she shared with me before we got married, and those were kind of very significant to her so they were meaningful to me.”

What would you give someone for Valentine’s Day?

Mr. Rodig: “I think the best kinds of gifts would be time spent with somebody, not necessarily stuff, because stuff goes away and you get bored with stuff, but memories is what kind of keeps the relationship together and love strong.”

Freshman Dominic Byrne

Name & Grade: Dominic Byrne- Freshman

What’s a good price range for a Valentines Day gift?

Dom: “I think nothing over $60 and nothing under $10 because you can get chocolates, flowers, and like a good card for like 20 bucks at some good stores. If you want to go really big you can get them shoes or a jacket but anything more is way too much money.”

Do you have any gift ideas?

Dom: “I think gift ideas would be flowers, obviously, that’s a must have, chocolate or whatever their favorite candy is and a bag of chips. Maybe a gift card for their favorite stores or clothes that they want.”
