April’s athlete of the month - Sawyer Atkinson

Sawyer Atkinson is a Senior here at Estancia and is the April Athlete of The Month! The varsity baseball player Sawyer, number 19, has had an impressive high school career here at our very own Estancia high school. Year-round, Sawyer has worked very hard, which has resulted in him earning a scholarship to University of Mary and is officially committed.
Sawyer Atkinson tallied over 107 hits in his varsity journey and will proceed to tally up more until his senior year is over. “Time, dedication, and hard work” is what Sawyer says it takes to become a great athlete. Last season, Sawyer helped the Estancia baseball team win the 2025 CIF championship last season. Ever since his freshman year, he has been helping his varsity team. Leaving Estancia Sawyer will take his success and talent to the college level, and he is very excited to start a new journey at the university of Mary.
“Being Athlete of The Month means a lot to me because it shows all my hard work that I've put in and helps me drive to be a better person and leader to the team.”
What has helped Sawyer to be successful is his motivator and mentor. His answer, his father. He said his father coached him a lot and is his biggest inspiration, he has always been someone who has pushed him to be the best he can be. But why does he even play baseball? Sawyer's answer was short and simple, “It's fun” he does what he loves.
For the remainder of his varsity career, Sawyers’s goals are to win league as a team, and to bounce back from their rough start they had in the beginning of the season. Sawyer hopes he can have a large impact and fully help his team to achieve those goals. Even off the field Sawyer is a charismatic and funny person who helps his teammates and friends get things done. Sawyer makes sure to look out for his teammates on and off the field. Academically he shows great success and takes things seriously showing his determination to succeed. Sawyer acts as a leader, he truly shows what it means to be a team player.
“As a freshman and a new player to the varsity baseball team, I really look up to Sawyer and see him as a true role model. He picks our team up at our lowest, and always keeps the energy going, which truly makes him a good role model.” Sawyer’s teammate Carter Green made this comment showing how Sawyer has positively impacted his team.
What truly gives Sawyer his skills is his determination and his ability to be unphased under the spotlight. He handles pressure like a pro! Sawyers' pre game ritual consists of nothing! Sawyer trusts in the work and time that he has put in. This ability to keep his composure alongside all the hard work that he has put in gave him the ability to achieve the award April Athlete of the Month. All in all, here at Estancia Sawyer Atkinson has done many great things.
